From a childhood bike to fixing the industry

The story of how one bike ride became a mission to reduce waste and enable repair.

A childhood companion

Growing up, my family faced financial constraints that meant I couldn't afford a car or public transit. My bike became my lifeline—a 30-minute ride to school each morning, another 30 minutes back home. That one-hour daily round trip through rain, snow, and sunshine taught me something profound: a well-maintained bike isn't a luxury, it's essential infrastructure. My bike carried me through childhood and college, and I learned to fix it myself out of necessity. That bike represented freedom, independence, and possibility.

Eight years in the ebike revolution

After college, I entered the rapidly growing ebike industry. I spent 4 years working in ebike charger systems, learning the intricacies of power management and battery integration. Then I moved into ebike drive systems for another 4 years, gaining deep expertise in motor technology, torque sensing, and drivetrain compatibility. I watched the ebike market explode with innovation—but I also watched it fracture into thousands of incompatible standards.

The problem that haunted me

The fragmentation became impossible to ignore. I encountered thousands of perfectly functional ebikes that couldn't be repaired because their chargers, motors, or controllers used proprietary standards. Bike shops and repair technicians faced an impossible choice: spend hours sourcing obscure parts or tell customers their bikes were unrepairable. The result? Perfectly good bikes ended up in landfills. The environmental waste was staggering—all that aluminum, carbon fiber, and electronics discarded because of incompatible standards. I realized that the same bike that gave me freedom as a child was now being thrown away because the industry had lost sight of what mattered: durability, repairability, and sustainability.

The mission: standardized parts, sustainable futures

In 2018, I founded The Bike Parts with a clear mission: provide reliable, standardized components that enable bike shops and repair technicians to fix and maintain bikes and ebikes instead of discarding them.

We operate on a B2B model specifically designed to serve repair shops, bike retailers, and manufacturers. By sourcing compatible, standardized components—from chargers and motors to drivetrains and controllers—we give repair shops the tools they need to breathe new life into bikes that would otherwise end up in landfills.

Every bike we help repair is one less bike in a landfill. Every repair shop we enable is one more voice for sustainability in the cycling industry. That childhood bike that carried me to school taught me that bikes matter. Now, my mission is to ensure that bikes—and the people who depend on them—are never abandoned.
